India’s beauty and personal care landscape is entering a new phase as L’Oréal’s corporate venture capital fund, BOLD, partners with Nykaa to invest in the country’s next generation of beauty entrepreneurs.
In a move that highlights the growing global interest in India’s beauty ecosystem, L’Oréal’s corporate venture fund BOLD (Business Opportunities for L’Oréal Development) and Nykaa have announced a new collaboration to jointly invest in high-growth Indian beauty, personal care and wellness brands.
Announced on September 24, 2026, the partnership will see BOLD and Nykaa take minority stakes in emerging brands, while allowing founders to retain ownership and continue to independently manage their businesses, teams and creative direction.

Beyond Investment: A Combination of Capital, Expertise and Reach
The partnership is designed to go beyond financial investment.
Selected brands will have access to L’Oréal’s global beauty expertise and mentorship, combined with Nykaa’s extensive retail network, consumer insights and omnichannel distribution capabilities.
According to the companies, the objective is to help promising Indian beauty founders scale their businesses faster and build brands that can potentially expand from India to international markets.
For emerging beauty entrepreneurs, the combination brings together two very different but complementary strengths: L’Oréal’s experience across the global beauty industry and Nykaa’s understanding of Indian beauty consumers and retail.
Why Indian Beauty Brands Are Getting Global Attention
India’s beauty market has seen a rapid rise in homegrown, digital-first and consumer-focused brands. Changing consumer preferences, social commerce, influencer-led discovery and the growth of online beauty retail have created opportunities for younger brands to compete with established players.
Nykaa has built a significant position in this ecosystem. The company says it served more than 60 million customers as of June 30, 2026, with 324 offline beauty destinations at the same point.
The latest partnership therefore gives Nykaa a role that extends beyond being a retail platform: it can now participate directly in identifying and supporting emerging brands.
Founders Will Retain Control
One of the notable aspects of the collaboration is its minority-investment structure.
BOLD and Nykaa have stated that their investments will be purely financial and minority in nature, meaning founders will retain operational and creative control over their companies.
This structure is particularly relevant for independent beauty brands that want access to capital, expertise and distribution without giving up control of their identity or day-to-day operations.
L’Oréal’s Growing Focus on Indian Beauty
The announcement also comes at a time when L’Oréal is expanding its footprint in India.
In June 2026, L’Oréal announced an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Innovist, a digital-first Indian personal care house of brands. L’Oréal described the move as part of its strategy to expand in India and add locally relevant brands to its portfolio.
The company has also deepened its commercial relationship with Nykaa. In 2026, Nykaa highlighted new initiatives involving L’Oréal brands including La Roche-Posay, NYX and Kiehl’s in India.
The new BOLD-Nykaa partnership takes that relationship into another territory — supporting independent Indian brands rather than only bringing established international labels to Indian consumers.
What This Could Mean for India’s Beauty Founders
For emerging beauty companies, access to capital is only one part of scaling a consumer brand. Distribution, product development, consumer understanding, marketing and operational expertise can be equally important.
The partnership brings together these capabilities under one model. Nykaa contributes its understanding of Indian consumers and its retail and distribution ecosystem, while BOLD provides access to L’Oréal’s global network, beauty expertise and mentoring capabilities.
However, the companies have not disclosed the size of the investment corpus or individual investments at this stage.
A New Chapter for Indian Beauty Entrepreneurship
The L’Oréal-BOLD and Nykaa collaboration reflects the increasing institutional interest in India’s homegrown beauty and personal care sector.
With Indian consumers increasingly discovering brands online and newer companies building strong identities around specific consumer needs, the next generation of beauty businesses could have more avenues to access capital, expertise and distribution.
For founders, the significance of the partnership may ultimately lie not just in who invests in their brands, but in the ecosystem that comes with that investment.
As India’s beauty industry continues to evolve, the partnership between L’Oréal’s BOLD and Nykaa could become another important bridge between India’s emerging beauty entrepreneurs and the global beauty industry.
